STATUS: Least Concern
Why? The population is increasing.
Diet: Carnivorous: Eats insects, small mammals, and songbirds.

Habitat: Heavily wooded areas
Fun Fact:
1) They are the smallest owls in North America.
2) An adult Eastern Screech Owl stands only nine inches tall and weighs only six ounces.

What Virginia Species Am I Similar To?
The Barred Owl (Strix varia) and the eastern screech owl both live in the same areas regions of Virginia in forest tree cavities. They also both prey on small mammals as a source of food.
