The Northern Watersnake (Nerodia sipedon). Like the tentacled snake, this species hunts for fish and other aquatic animals in slow moving waters.

STATUS: LEAST CONCERN

How can I help?

- Although it has a limited range, the tentacled snake isn't facing any urgent threats. Some snakes are harvested for their meat, but not at unsustainable levels. In the future, however, climate change might pose a threat to this aquatic species. Check here so see what you can do to prevent climate change.

FAQ's:

1. Why does it have tentcles on its head?

The sensitive tentacles on this snake's head are packed with nerve cells. This helps them to sense prey swimming by in murky water.
